Friends of the Poor is to ease the burden of living in poverty and enhance the quality of life for all who live in low-to moderate- income communities. First time recipients must have ID or Access Card. Friends of the Poor manages pantries offering food, clothing and household items at the following locations:

St.Francis of Assisi Soup Kitchen

At St. Francis of Assisi, the hungry are fed in collaboration with volunteers and donors from all faith communities. The Kitchen provides a free, hot, nutritious meal to all our guests every day of the year.

BabyFood Pantry at St. Joseph’s Center

St. Joseph’s Center continues a long tradition of caring for the needs of women, children and families. The Baby Pantry is a free community service available to all families who need baby food, clothing (up to size 6), diapers and other baby items.

Luzerne County Assistance Office

Residents of Pennsylvania can seek assistance and a range of services for themselves and their families from professionally trained staff members at county assistance offices. Look below for the county where you live to find a county assistance office near you.

You can also apply for and renew your benefits from the comfort of your home using COMPASS, the online resource for cash assistance, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), help with child care, health care coverage, home heating assistance (LIHEAP), school meals, SelectPlan for Women and long-term living services.
